Blueberry season is in full swing, and Ozark Mountain Orchard does not lack in abundance of this delightful summer fruit.
We had never picked fresh blueberries before, so this was our first experience, and it won't be our last! Upon arriving after a gorgeous drive, we were greeted by such nice employees who truly seem to love what they do on their farm, and it shows. There is so much beauty all around and that makes the adventure all the more special.
We were given our buckets, including an adorable small size, perfect for little hands, and sent out to pick some fresh berries!
We spent about an hour in the Orchard, observing and taking in the beauty and picking as many blueberries as we could. It was hard to stop, there were so many just waiting to be picked! When we were finished, we took our buckets full of berries to the front to be weighed, where price is determined. We ended up with just over three pints, not too bad for our first time! At the checkout point, you will also notice many other items that are hard to resist taking home. Blueberry muffins (we got two, and they were gone in no time) fresh blueberry lemonade, local handmade crafts, and more.
I washed the fresh berries and decided to create my very own recipe. Along with being a publisher for Macaroni Kid Branson, I also have a small cottage baking business and found that this was the perfect opportunity to incorporate a local product into a new dessert.
I came up with a Blueberry Cobbler-Bar. There were no leftovers, and it made for a fantastic summer treat.
If you are looking for a great way to spend a summer day, support a local business, and take home some farm fresh berries, do yourself a favor and make a drive out to Ozark Mountain Orchard in Highlandville.
Boots, sunscreen, and bug spray are recommended. Please check website for updated picking hours and information. Happy picking!
Thank you, Ozark Mountain Orchard, for the awesome experience and the delicious farm fresh berries.
